With roots that some sources say date back to the 12th century, near present-day Istanbul, Halva - derived from the Arabic world “halwa,” or “sweet confection” - is made with sesame paste, or tahini, gently mixed with hot sugar. Widely popular in the Middle East, the Mediterranean, Greece and in Arab and Jewish culture, this delicious treat is prized for its nutty flavor and unique, crumbly texture. We have produced Macedonian Halva in Greece for over 80 years, using our traditional family recipe, with no chemicals or additives. The perfect not-too-sweet end to a meal, enjoy our Vanilla Halva with espresso or hot tea. Add to a cookie or brownie recipe for extra nutty goodness. Halva is rich in vitamins B and E, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, zinc, selenium and antioxidants.
